World Anesthesia Day

STAARMUC is delighted to announce World Anesthesia Day, organized by our colleagues at the National Association of Anesthesia and Resuscitation Technicians of Togo (ANTART).

Affiche journee mondiale anesthesie 2The field of Anesthesia and Resuscitation, an essential pillar of modern medicine, will be under the spotlight on Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Lomé.

A Major Professional Gathering in Lomé

Following World Anesthesia Day (internationally celebrated on October 16), the National Association of Anesthesia and Resuscitation Technicians of Togo (ANTART) is organizing two days of major professional meetings. The event will take place at the School for Medical Auxiliaries (EAM) of the Sylvanus Olympio University Hospital (CHU) and will bring together the nation's experts in the specialty.

1. The Post-University Education (EPU) Module

At the heart of these two days is the organization of a Post-University Education (EPU) module. This continuing education is crucial for anesthesia and resuscitation professionals to update their knowledge on the latest medical advances, care protocols, and best practices.

ANTART's stated goal is clear: to make this meeting "a true catalyst for change in favor of patient safety and staff competence."

2. The Extraordinary General Assembly (AG)

The event will also serve as the setting for an Extraordinary General Assembly of ANTART. This institutional meeting is an opportunity for the association to debate crucial issues affecting anesthesia and resuscitation technicians. Discussions will focus on the professional valorization of the profession, improving working conditions, and defending the rights of practitioners within the Togolese healthcare system.

A Global Theme Focused on Emergency Care

The Lomé event aligns with the annual theme chosen by the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA) for 2025: "Anaesthesiology in Health Emergencies."

Anesthesiologists are often on the front lines during disasters, major emergencies, or pandemics, providing vital care in critical situations (trauma, hemorrhages, cardio-respiratory assistance). While the Togolese program has yet to be detailed, it will likely align with these priorities, underscoring the essential role of anesthesiologists in emergency and intensive care on the African continent.
